Don't pass up Planet Hollywood Observatory at Disney Springs

It had been many years since we stopped by Planet Hollywood for a meal. In fact, my kids had never been there.  And let me tell you, we have been missing out!

Planet Hollywood Observatory is a Hollywood-themed restaurant at Disney Springs

Planet Hollywood opened at Disney (then called Downtown Disney) in 1994. It was a huge hit!  I remember visiting the big blue dome-shaped restaurant in 1996. We waited over two hours for a table as we couldn't wait to check out the place.

Twenty two years later (in 2016), the restaurant shut down for a year as it went through a remodel. It reopened in January 2017 with an outdoor terrace, a new menu, and an exciting new look.

So let's talk about the changes.
I have heard complaints from a few folks who don't like the new vibe. But personally, I like it! The original layout had more memorabilia; however, the new layout offers more interaction and family fun.  The biggest change is the large screen spanning several floors. It offers live video of diners, as well as sing-a-long videos like "Let it Go!" and "YMCA".

Don't get me wrong...there is still tons of memorabilia to explore, so make sure you visit each floor.
Some of my favorites include Matthew Broderick's outfit from Ferris Bueller...

Will Smith's uniform from Independence Day...

And the dress Miley Cyrus wore in the Hannah Montana movie.

Okay now let's talk about the menu!

The menu includes a variety of beer and specialty cocktails. I chose a Blue Moon draft on this visit. (Let your waiter know if you want to keep your glass as a souvenir.)

And some amazing milkshakes too!

The new(er) menu includes burgers and sandwiches by celebrity Chef Guy Fier.
Don't fret--the original sweet crunch chicken tenders are still available as an appetizer.

My son ordered the Bacon Mac N Cheese Burger.
It was amazing!! Full of flavor and cooked to perfection.

My hubby ordered the Turkey Pic-A-Nic sandwich, which is served on a pretzel roll.
Great flavor and huge serving.

At the suggestion of our waiter, I ordered the BBQ ribs.
YUM, fall of the bone! Honestly, the best ribs I have ever had.

For dessert, we shared the Brownie Cheesecake Star Jar. Again, really good.

From drinks to entrees to dessert, we had a great meal. Like other dining establishments at Disney Springs, the meal was a little pricey, but at the same time, the portions are huge and could easily be shared. The service was excellent. And, the new layout offers an exciting vibe!

Oh, don't forget to stop by the gift shop on your way out.
There is a variety of apparel, hats, magnets, cups, and more so you can remember your visit.
