Top 5 Family Fun Activities in Sarasota

Sarasota County offers family fun for story-loving tots and older siblings.

Last week I shared my two favorite beaches on the Gulf Coast in Sarasota Co.  Today I want to share my "Top 5 Family Fun Activities" you and your kids are sure to enjoy!

1. The Ringling - Circus Museum

Thanks to the legacy of circus magnate John Ringling, Sarasota is known as the “Circus Capital of the World”.  The Tibbals Learning Center at The Ringling Circus Museum has the world’s largest miniature circus. The 3,800-square-foot display includes the big top with circus performers as well as the performers’ living quarters and dining tent. The Museum also offers hands-on activities for your kids to enjoy like shooting a pretend cannonball and walking a makeshift high wire.

We made our first visit to @TheRingling this week. We started at the Circus Museum and Tibbals Learning Center. 🎪🎪🎪 The Howard Bros. Circus Model was quite impressive. From the 3-ring big top tent to the numerous animal tents to the resting quarters, I had no idea that the traveling circus was so LARGE! I can’t imagine how they moved from city to city like they did. (Tip for Disney fans – make sure you watch the live action @dumbo movie before visiting as it made even more exciting, IMO.) Next was the interactive portion of the museum where the kids were able to walk the wire, learn how to apply “whiteface” clown make up, and explore circus treasures. If you want to learn more about circus king John Ringling, head over to @VisitSarasotaCo for a visit! . . . . . #VisitFlorida #VisitSarasota #VisitSarasotaCo #MySarasota #FloridaVacation #FloridaLife #CircusLife #RinglingCircus #FLTourists #OrlandoBlogger #FloridaBlogger #FamilyFirst #FamilyVacation #JohnRingling #CircusMuseum

2. Build your Own Tervis

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I have a huge collection of Tervis tumblers.  At the Osprey Factory Store, visitors can build a customized Tervis in the Lab! My daughter was able to pick her cup size and color, and then created a custom design to commemorate our visit. The heritage location also offers discounted tumblers as well as new designs.

3. TreeUmph! Adventure Course

TreeUmph! Adventure Course is Southwest Florida’s only elevated adventure course.  Guests can zip, climb and swing through the trees!  The course has over 10 football fields of challenging terrain and hundreds of aerial adventure games. Don't miss this exhilarating adventure!

4. Public Art in Downtown Sarasota

Sarasota has an abundance of public art.  In fact, there are 81 (and counting) pieces of art in the City of Sarasota’s Public Arts Collection.  Walk through the streets of downtown Sarasota and discover the thought provoking sculptures that are found around every corner.  You may even stop to pose with a few pieces.

5. Big Cat Habitat

While enjoying dinner at Prague Restaurant, a sweet lady dining next to us encouraged us to visit Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary. As the name suggests, the sanctuary is a safe heaven for rescued animals. Our visit offered a close up experience that I won't forget anytime soon. I was able to hold a live gator and feed a bear!
